What We Heard at ETA Transact, and Why It Matters
Last Updated on April 1, 2026
Most payments events blur together. Big ideas, familiar faces, and a lot of optimism that never quite lands anywhere specific. ETA in Atlanta felt different this year. The conversations were sharper, the questions were more direct, and the agents and ISOs on the floor weren’t talking in theory. They were talking about growth, margins, onboarding friction, and what it actually takes to stay competitive right now.
That’s exactly why Nexio was there. Not to present, but to listen.
Agents are done guessing
If there was one thread running through every conversation we had on the floor, it was this: agents and ISOs are raising their expectations, and they’re not apologizing for it. The days of placing a deal and hoping for the best are behind them. The people we spoke with are thinking in portfolios, not transactions. They want to know how deals are structured, how they make money, and what happens when something goes sideways.
Speed still matters. But consistency matters more. Agents want to know that when they bring a deal forward, it’s going to move. No surprises, no unnecessary friction, no chasing someone down for a status update.
“The biggest thing I heard over and over was that agents are tired of the guessing game. They don’t want to wonder whether a deal is going to get approved, sit in limbo, or get kicked back for some reason nobody told them about. They want a processing partner that’s predictable: consistent underwriting, clear communication, and fast turnarounds. Not fast sometimes. Not consistent on certain deal types. Every time. That’s the bar now, and honestly, it should have been the bar a long time ago.” Brandon Banks, SVP of Marketing
The shift happening across the industry
Technology is playing a bigger role in how agents evaluate partners, but not in the way you might expect. It’s not about features. It’s about what the infrastructure behind the scenes actually enables. Faster approvals, cleaner onboarding, better visibility into a portfolio without having to ask for it. The partners who can deliver on that are the ones getting the calls.
Across the floor, the same themes kept surfacing: growth, margins, and control. Agents are thinking more carefully about who they align with. Not just for the next deal, but for where their business is going two or three years from now. The ones who are winning have stopped treating partner selection like a commodity decision.
Speed is table stakes. Transparency is the differentiator.
Some of the most useful conversations didn’t happen in scheduled meetings. They happened between sessions, at the booth, in the hallways. And the message was consistent.
Agents want partners who make their lives easier, not just in the pitch, but when things get real. Understanding pricing. Knowing how a deal is actually structured. Having real visibility into their portfolio without having to dig for it. These aren’t nice-to-haves anymore. They’re the baseline. The partners who treat them as a bonus are losing ground fast.
What the new Nexio brand actually signals
We introduced our new branding at ETA, but the more important thing was what it reflects. The messaging is different now. More direct, more plainly aligned with what agents and ISOs are actually asking for.
Over the past year, the same frustration has come up again and again. Too many relationships in payments feel one-sided. Contracts that benefit one side more than the other. Support that shows up at the start and disappears when things get hard. It creates friction, and over time, it slows down the partners who are trying to build something real.
The rebrand is a direct response to that. It’s about being clear upfront on how we operate, who we’re building for, and what we’re accountable to. Not just when things are easy, but when they aren’t.
“We here at Nexio are on a mission to revitalize our existing partnerships and curate and nurture new relationships. We are completely focused on reducing friction at all levels. We believe we have the people and structure to make a major splash with what we do best. We have received an excellent response to our new branding and our new initiatives. The idea is that we look different, and we operate differently than most. We are looking to partner with the best of the best and create win-win relationships. This is an exciting time to be a part of Nexio. If a solid, competent and focused partnership is important to you, then we would love to get you on board with what we are doing.” – James Willoughby, Business Development Rep
What this means if you’re building for the long term
The agents who are winning have stopped settling for partners who treat them like a revenue line. They want enablement that actually helps them close. Economics they can understand. The flexibility to structure deals in a way that makes sense for their merchants, not just for the processor.
That’s a higher bar than it was five years ago. It’s also a more honest one.
Where Nexio fits into that is pretty straightforward. We’re focused on giving agents the support and transparency they need to build something sustainable. Not just helping them get started, but staying close as their portfolio grows.
“At ETA, the conversation kept coming back to tools, stability, and predictability. That’s what gives agents the confidence to actually build something long term.” Mason Harris, Business Development Rep
The conversations don’t stop when the floor clears
ETA was a signal, not a stopping point. The follow-ups are happening, the conversations are continuing, and the agents we met with are already thinking about their next move. That’s where the real value of an event like this shows up. Not in the sessions or the signage, but in what carries forward.
For Nexio, that means staying close to our partners, continuing to listen, and showing up for agents and ISOs as they grow.
Because this isn’t about one event. It’s about what we build after it.
