What We’re Building at Nexio and Who We’re Building It With

Building Something Worth Being Part Of

We’ve been in payments long enough to see the cycles. Growth, disruption, correction, repeat. But what’s happening right now feels different. Regulatory pressure is up, bank scrutiny is tighter, and the market is shifting fast. That’s creating real consequences for merchants and the partners who serve them.

We’re not rattled by it. Honestly, it’s clarifying.

Hard seasons have a way of showing you who you are. Over the past year we’ve sharpened our direction, deepened our banking relationships, and gotten a lot more intentional about the kinds of partnerships we want. We figured it was time to tell you exactly where we’re headed and what it means for you.

We’re choosing quality over volume

Yeah, we know. Every company says that. But we mean it in a specific, operational way.

Nexio is built on one idea: the right partners, working with the right merchants, on honest terms, build portfolios that actually last. That’s good for merchants who need reliable processing. It’s good for agents who want residuals that stick around. And it’s good for the banking relationships that make all of it possible.

We’ve spent years building those relationships. We don’t take them lightly. So as we grow, we’re being intentional about what comes into the ecosystem. That means becoming more transparent about what we support, more direct about what we don’t, and more honest with partners about what it actually takes to get a deal approved and keep it running.

The merchants that build strong portfolios

Some merchants just process better. They have real customers, real products, and predictable revenue. These include:

  • Retail and card-present businesses
  • Restaurants and hospitality
  • Healthcare providers
  • Contractors, home services, auto repair, salons, fitness studios
  • Professional services like accounting and legal
  • Nonprofits
  • Pet services
  • Education providers.

Not flashy categories, but they’re the backbone of local economies. When partners bring us merchants like these, approvals move faster and portfolios hold up longer.

That’s not luck. It’s what happens when the fit is right from the start.

We still work tougher deals. But come prepared.

We’re not pretending the payments world is simple. There are merchant types that come with more regulatory complexity. Examples of these include:

  • CBD businesses
  • Nutraceuticals
  • Credit repair
  • Telemedicine
  • Subscription services
  • Debt collection

These can still be processed. But they require more from everyone: more documentation, more compliance clarity, more transparency about how the merchant actually operates.

If you’re bringing us a deal like that, pull the paperwork together before you show up. Know your merchant’s business model. Understand the compliance landscape. Set honest expectations about what underwriting is going to look like.

When you do that, we move. When you don’t, we all slow down together. Nobody wants that.

Where we draw the line

Knowing our limits is part of how we protect you.

Nexio doesn’t work with adult content and escort services, payday lending, crypto exchanges and ICOs, gambling and lottery businesses, counterfeit goods, marijuana products exceeding federal THC limits, payment facilitators and e-wallet services, or timeshare exit companies.

These aren’t arbitrary calls. Every one of those categories carries regulatory or reputational exposure that would chip away at the stability we’re building for everyone else. Knowing the line before you bring a deal saves time and keeps the relationship intact.

What we’re looking for in partners

Here’s where we’ll just say it straight.

We want to grow with partners who take the long view. These are the people who get to know their merchants before bringing them to us. They submit accurate information and don’t oversell the timeline. And, they pick up the phone when something changes.

That’s not a high bar. But it is a specific one.

When partners operate that way, everything moves better. Underwriting is faster. Approvals are more predictable. Merchants have better experiences. And the relationships between agents, processors, and banks actually stay healthy.

We’re not trying to work with every agent out there. We’re building deep relationships with the ones who care about doing this right.

If you’re already with us

We want to be clear: we value what you’ve built with us. These changes aren’t about making your life harder. They’re about making your portfolio more stable, your approvals more predictable, and your long-term revenue more reliable.

Our most successful partners already operate this way. We’re just getting better at naming what’s working so we can support more people who are doing it right.

If you have questions about how any of this affects a deal you’re working, talk to your rep. We’d much rather have that conversation now than after something stalls in underwriting.

Looking ahead

Payments will keep changing. The regulatory environment will keep shifting. The merchants we serve will adapt, and we’ll adapt with them.

What won’t change is what we’re building. When the right partners work with the right merchants on honest terms, everyone wins. That’s the ecosystem we’re focused on at Nexio.

Glad to be building it with you.
